Ms. Wendy Tamar presents gift to staff of Hills View Home for the AgedTwo of the major projects recipients to benefit from Spice Island Youthquake are Hillsview Home for the Aged, Gouyave, St. John’s which was opened with funds from our 1981 tour and New Life Organisation (NEWLO), Palmiste, St. John’s which received the profits of the 1998 tour.

The home has a capacity to house 35 persons and provides employment for 12 workers including the matron. While residents are expected to pay a monthlyfee, some are housed free of cost.

The profits from the 1998 tour were used by New Life Organisation to purchase computers and accessories. NEWLO is by far the most important and successful organisation for integral human develpopment in Grenada which was established in 1983.

Students at NEWLO are expected to participate in a compulsory three-month adolescent development programme, which must be completed and passed.

After the adolescent development programme students can choose two skills courses each of which lasts six months. Among the 13 skills offered are construction, plumbing, electrical and hospitality arts.

Spice Island Youthquake has also contributed to other projects such as Batik and Candle manufacturing in St. Patrick’s, a Sewing Centre Training Programme, Gouyave, St. John’s and Chirch Projects in St. George’s, St. John’s and Carriacou.

Over the years, Spice Island Youthquake has contributed their tour profits of more than $135,000 Eastern Caribbean dollars to social and developmental projects in Grenada.
