The music of Spice Island Youthquake is varied in repertoire, instrumentation, voices and presentation - this is the ‘Spice’ which makes this group of young Grenadians so unique.
The strong and exciting Caribbean rhythmic patterns, well blended with the lyrical melodies of Europe and North America provide an excellent potpouri, indicative of the mixed races of our people.
The instrumentation includes our own indigenous tenor pan, keyboard, acoustic guitars, native drum and other percussion instruments.
The musicians themselves arrange their accompaniments and instrumental pieces in a style that is peculiar only toSpice Island Youthquake.
Caribbean compositions and in particular Grenadian ones have been on the increase over the last 25 years. Six members of the group have contributed in this way and some of tthe songs are in frequent use by choirs in Grenada.
“Youthquake” the theme song and “Grenada The Island of Spice” are performend at many shows. These two songs embody the aspirations of the young talented group.
The group wishes to express its gratitude to the composers, Pearl Mulrain of Trinidad for Youthquake and to the late Theophillus Redhead (Pepetete) of Grenada for Grenada The Island of Spice.
