Many old friends in Ireland really wanted the group back. They were willing to organise. The St. John’s Committee in London was also willing to try again. it was decided to leave out Scotland. The cold in1981 deterred even stout hearts.
From the begining, the leaders knew trip c ould not be exciting as the first one. However, the new blood in the group brought it up to the old standard and the years of experience made organisation easier.
The London shows were no so successful due mainly to an unfortunate choice of venues and lack of support at organisational level.
The Irish tour was again very rewarding, but the absence of some church support was felt. However, the work done by the organising committee (Edna O’kane, Dermot Leavy. Fr. Heber McMahon) surpassed all expectations. A 1000 persons attended the opening concert in Ireland in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin.
As in 1981, Spice Island Youthquake sand on the Sunday morning live televised mass from Radio.Television.Eire (R.T.E) studios. The promotion, reception and hospitality in each town were excellent.
All in all the 1988 tour was not as successful as the 1981 tour, which was much longer (30 concerts in 1981, 21 in 1988), yet it was a great experience and quite rewarding financially.
