Tour of USA & Canada, 1983

Friends in the USA and Canada invited the group to tour these two countries and a 20 concert tour was organised.

During the preparation of the tour problems arose. Mrs. Marie O’Sullivan, who came from Ireland with her husband, Lt. Col. Con O’Sullivan, to help prepare the group died suddenly. This was a great upset and much of the contribution Con could have made was lost. Yet Spice Island Youthquake will never forget the work done the weekend before left. Working under tremendous pressures, he drove the group beyond what they thought they could ever endure and gave the show a new dynamism and a truly profesional touch.

The show went on as planned. Twenty shows were given in places as far apart as Brooklyn, Rhode Island, Boston, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Chiago, Moorstown N.J., Washington, and Cincinnati.

Finacially this tour was not successful due to much smaller crowds at the shows. Yet the group had great experiences like singing inside and outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York, spending a day with the Episcopalian youth in Rhode Island, V.I.P treatment in Boston, seeing the sights and experiencing the dual culture of Montreal and Ottawa. The group also visited the Niagara Falls, climbed the CN Tower in Toronto, lived withe the Quakers in Moorstown and experienced the sights of Washington.
